Wars of Liberty takes this concept of cultures and expands upon it to provide a wider variety of gameplay to experience. The civilizations grouped into a culture are either part of the same region (such as Europe), or the civilizations' cultures share something in common in history (such as the Anglophones). Each group had a different gameplay experience such as unique buildings, shared units or the way they Age up. The mod is constantly growing and evolving, many more civilizations are planned to be added in the future as well as reworks of existing ones. In addition to the originals from the base game, Wars of Liberty has greatly expanded the civilization roster and as of July of 2020 it features a total of 43 playable civilizations, which are sorted into different culture groups. Most had their rosters modernized to better fit the narrative era of the mod (1789-1914).
